Act Alive is proud to partner with James Furnell, an elite UK-trained instructor, to share his skillful and inspiring dance classes with the Squamish community.
Whether you’re an adult eager to explore new styles of dance or a child beginning your ballet journey, Dance with James offers a welcoming space for all ages and levels. His expert instruction provides personalized guidance in a fun, supportive environment, helping dancers build confidence, refine technique, and express themselves through movement.

Who is James?
James Furnell is a Squamish-based dancer, choreographer, and performing arts instructor. James pursued a first class degree in Professional Dance and Musical Theatre at the world-renowned Bird College - Conservatoire for dance and musical theatre in London, England, where he received training in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Modern, Contemporary, Hip Hop/Commercial, Musical Theatre, Singing and Acting. He has featured in productions of 9 to 5, Sister Act and 1984 and has performed on live television as a backing dancer and soloist for a number of artists. James moved to the West Coast of Canada in 2019 and has been teaching performers of all ages ever since. He lives in Squamish with his loving partner and an ever-growing collection of house plants.

Broadway Jazz
Ages 18-99
This all-levels adult class offers a fun, welcoming space to move, express, and perform. Explore Broadway-inspired jazz choreography in a supportive environment that focuses on style, storytelling, and joy. The session wraps up with a fun low stress performance to celebrate your hard work and growth.

Kids Classes
Ballet 1
Ages 5-7
This beginner ballet class introduces young dancers to the basics of ballet through playful movement, music, and imaginative play. Students will learn fundamental steps, positions, and simple combinations while building coordination, balance, and confidence. Classes follow a structured ballet syllabus appropriate for this age group, helping dancers progress with clear goals in a fun and supportive environment.
