A familiar face in the Squamish community for the past 7 years, Jessica Kelly offers Yo-Yoga, Girlvana, Lights Up Musical Theatre, Act Alive Improvisation, Peak Ballet and Dancin Stars classes at the Brennan Park Rec Centre. She also owns and operates Lights Up Musical Theatre Parties and is a managing director for Lights Up Musical Theatre Schools in Vancouver. She is so grateful for the opportunity to merge her loves for yoga and the performing arts with Act Alive. Jessica moved to Squamish in 2016 from Vancouver and is very happy to have planted roots in her community.
Jessica Kelly has been teaching for 15 years and brings thousands of hours of teaching experience as well as her fun, energetic, and supportive personality to all her camps and classes.
She trained from a young age in Musical Theatre, Jazz and R.A.D Ballet at the Douglas Ballet Academy (now Dance Collective). There she was blessed with many opportunities to travel the world sharing dance in her youth, and won many awards for her performances. Commitment, teamwork, dedication, inclusion, friendliness and a love of self expression were ingrained in Jessica during the countless hours she spent in the studio training each week; core principals which she stands by and brings to each one of her classes.
Jessica went on to study Musical Theatre at Capilano University and work as a professional performer in and around Vancouver. Learning to channel her emotions through voice and movement has been a huge asset to Jessica and she is passionate about sharing her love of the arts with young performers.
At the age of 21, she suddenly and unexpectedly lost her father which resulted in depression and anxiety. It was those feelings that pushed her to try her first yoga class , which allowed her start to feel like herself again. She knows from personal experience that yoga and performing arts can be used as healing tools, which is why she is so passionate about sharing them.
In 2014 Jessica began her journey to become a yoga teacher, traveling to The Pavones Yoga Centre in Costa Rica in 2014 to receive her 200 hour teaching certificate. She has since received her 75 hour yin certificate from the YYoga Teacher's College in Vancouver, and her 300 hour certificate from the Shamanic Yoga Institute here in Squamish. Jessica is a full mesa carrier and continues to study and apprentice with Christine Selda at the Shamanic Yoga Institute. She is also a trained and licensed Girlvana instructor and carries a designation of CRYT-550 with the Canadian Yoga Alliance.
